Elon Musk: How to Succeed Against all Odds

Where do you see yourself a year from now?

How firm are you about living up to that goal or vision you laid out at the beginning of the year?

Your journey through life will present you with countless reasons to give up but *your level* of determination is the only thing that will keep you going.

Some of you reading this, just need to keep on and allow your determination to lead you instead of succumbing to the forces of unbelief and loss of self-confidence.

A few years ago, I was sad. I looked at myself in the mirror and fused about a lot of things. I would stand before a mirror and all I saw was a young man who wanted to do something extraordinary but was confused about how to go about it.

It was that stage of my life when my income was up and down (comes today and stops the next day). A period when I was working under pressure and I could only but endure.

I founded series of businesses at that time, yet most of them didn't see the end of the last day in two months.

I found myself asking a series of questions without a clear answer.

I asked myself a lot of questions that made me realise that even though I was deprived of what I wanted, there was no excuse for giving up.

I was writing a book around that period when someone told me to my face that I was wasting my time writing a book.

According to him, people no longer read (is that really true??).

<==That was the Dicta of the past==<

Today, I took the time to reflect on my past. I journeyed with my thoughts to the present. All I can see now is a man who defied all odds to be the best version of himself. I see a man who didn't allow the challenges of the past to stop him from taking charge of his life.

I see a being filled with so much passion to impact humanity, touch lives, and replicate himself in thousands of young people. I see a writer who has published books and his books have been read by people within and outside his country.

What happened? What has changed?

Just a Decision!

I decided to look beyond the intricacies of unbelief and reluctance even when I felt that the world was against me. It is a NORM to GIVE UP when you feel that things won't work. It is a norm to look for the easiest way to get to the top. That was the norm I choosed to defied.

I looked within me to discover that inherent gold; that precious resource that was planted in me.

Here is the lesson I have learned:

Until you decide to overlook the possibility of failing in life and desire the realm of unquantifiable success in whatever you do, you will find yourself giving excuses. You will play slave to the clangs of excuse; such a situation that leaves you at the mercy of the unseen and unrelatable forces.

This is why you will see people with so much enthusiasm today, stating their goals and aspirations, and tomorrow, it has flickered away like the breeze. Too bad! And if I have an opinion in your life I would say; No excuse is worth your destiny if you are determined to get to the top.

The most recurrent excuse from a lot of people is that of "l dont have XYZ". This has made a lot of dreams lie unactivated and unactualised. Can you look within you and discover that "one' thing you have? Can you look beyond the usual norm of lack to maximise that one thing inside you?

Maybe the story of Elon Musk might motivates you to succeed against all odds.

Until you decide to overlook the possibility of failing in life and desire the realm of unquantifiable success in whatever you do, you will find yourself giving excuses.

The story of the guy who went against all odds

On June 28, 1971, a boy was born in Pretoria, South Africa to the family of Maye Musk (née Haldeman), a Model and Dietician from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; and Errol Musk, a South African ElectroMechanical Engineer, Pilot and Sailor.

At 10, the introverted boy developed a deep interest in computers, but things at school were not going well for him as he was constantly bullied.

One day, the bullies threw him down the stairs and beat him until he blacked out.

Just after 2 days of admission to do his PhD at Stanford University, he dropped out of the university within two days, just to try out his luck with the idea he had, but later, he ended up getting kicked out from the company he created himself (PayPal).

At that time, he started reading books to learn how to build rockets, but while on his trip to Russia to buy a rocket to send to Mars, he realized that rockets were artificially overpriced, so, he decided to start a company known as 'SpaceX' to build his own rockets with his own money.

In the meantime, he founded an electric car company called 'Tesla'.

"I put millions in SpaceX and Tesla and I had to borrow money for rent." - Elon Musk

Unfortunately his first 3 rocket launches failed and exploded causing loss of millions of dollars.

His two companies, SpaceX and Tesla were running out of cash, but that didn't stop him.

The project that was so close to his heart barely escaped bankruptcy when his 4th launch finally succeeded and hours before Tesla was about to close down, it received investment.

Today, Elon Musk is one of the Richest Tech Billionaires.

Elon's story teaches us that ...

"When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favour" - Elon Musk

Billionaires lose millions to become billionaires.

Millionaires lose thousands to become millionaires.

But the poor don't want to lose anythung, so they remain where they are.

Take every chance.

In Conclusion

The project to work on yourself is continuous, and not  a one time thing.

I looked at myself in the mirror and realized that my life needed to be changed which I was grateful I made, which include riding myself off cynical people.

Your journey through life will present you with countless reasons to give up but *your level* of determination is the only thing that will keep you going. Don't stop.

Hope the story of Elon Musk motivates you to succeed against all odds.

He took a great risk in dropping out of his PhD program at the Stanford University within two days of admission, just to try out his luck with the idea he had.

If you are presently in school, you are not encouraged to drop out of it, but if you found that something is important enough, you should do it even if the odds are not in your favour.
